We now have a second photo gallery from the Lord Botetourt girls’ basketball win in Friday night’s regional semi-finals.

The win put the girls in the regional championship today at 4 p.m. — but also won them an automatic berth in next week’s state tournament.

The Lord Botetourt boys basketball team came up short Friday night, falling in the regionals 46-38 to Brookville. Nevertheless, we have a nice photo gallery of the action, thanks to Chris Runk.

Delegate who represents part of southern Botetourt retires

Del. William Fralin, R-Roanoke, whose district includes part of southern Botetourt surprised the General Assembly today by announcing his retirement at the end of his term.

That means there’ll be an open seat in this fall’s election.

The Lady Cavs were all victorious smiles after a hard fight 45-37.

The Lady Cavs will play R.E. Lee for the regional title today at 4 p.m. at Brookville High school. For more reporting of the game, click here.

The Cavs showed their fiesty playing side throughout the game.  Grace Blaylock, who was honored at the beginning of the game for scoring over 1,000 career points, led scoring for the Cavs with 19 and Jade Lewis had a great game adding in 11. For more pics from the game, click here.

Boy Scout Troop celebrates five year anniversary

Boy Scout Troop 211 chartered by St. Marks United Methodist Church in Daleville, celebrated its Five year anniversary at the February 6th Court of Honor, led by Senior Patrol Leader Kenyon Gladu.

Kid’s Day at Dale Ridge Church of Christ is March 14

What: Dale Ridge Church of Christ will be hosting its Kid’s Day

When: March 14 from 10 to 12 p.m.

Where: 7165 Cloverdale Road next to the BAC

About: The event will have Bible study, singing, crafts, a puppet lesson on “Dinosaurs and Men”. There will be lots of fun, learning, and for those with hungry kids, lunch will be provided. Adults will also have a great class!

Brownies earn badges at Taubman Museum of Art

Girl Scout Brownie Troop 432 of Botetourt Service Unit spent the day at the Taubman Museum of Art on Saturday February 14, 2009. The girls earned the Museum Muses and Science in Action badges. Abbie Eadens from the museum was the host. She taught the girls about the art collections and helped them earn the badges. Thank you Abbie!

Girl Scouts volunteer at Transitional Living Center

Eleven girls from Girl Scout Junior Troop 402 of Botetourt Service Unit volunteered at T.A.P’s Transitional Living Center on February 14th. The girls planned a Valentine’s Party for the children at the shelter. The girls decorated goodie bags, planned crafts, games, and refreshments for the party. The girls enjoyed working with the children and learning about the services provided at the Transitional Living Center. Many of the girls plan to return to the shelter to work on other projects. The Girl Scouts in attendance were Madison Harris, Amanda Reid, Trista Voekler,and Miranda Watts, Caitlyn Stultz, Amber Auen, Stephanie Frame, Carly Sumpter, Hannah Snyder, Alisa Lumsden, and Savannah Lucas, and the troop’s leaders are Melissa Reid and Gail Staples.

Band featuring James River grad plays in Floyd April 5

The Asheville, N.C.-based band Laura Redd and Deep Pocket — which features James River High School grad Debrissa McKinney on saxophone — returns to Virginia to play the Sun Music Hall in Floyd on April 5. That’s Debrissa at left.
