Lord Botetourt girl’s team awarded Sportsmanship trophy by Civitan

TheLord Botetourt Lady Cavs received the Civitan sportsmanship award

The Lord Botetourt Lady Cavs received the Civitan sportsmanship award.

Roanoke Civitan held its 15th annual Women’s Sportsamnship Award luncheon on Monday April 27, 2009 at The Plantation in North Roanoke County. Lord Botetourt’s Lady Cavs basketball team coached by Chuck Pound are this year’s recipients.

The Lady Cavs made it all the way to Richmond in play this season. Two speakers, John A. montgomer of “Play by Play ” and Basketball referree Roger Ayers of the Southwest VirginiaOfficials Association spoke on hustle and sportsmanship. Ayers is also an ACC referee. He remarked Coach Pound never questions calls and if he did, then as a referee, Ayers would question the call himself.  “Coach Pound is a class act. The hardest place to be a referee is in the recreation leagues– the parents really give the refs a difficult time.”

The Civitan also awarded a $500 scholarship to senior Katelyn Alford. Coach Pound thanked the school, the Civitan and his players for their good attitude and support. For more pics we have a gallery.
