Snow was light this morning like that in this file photo.

About two inches of snow came to Botetourt overnight. Some secondary roads are still slushy as of this afternoon and sprinkles are widespread across the county. Early this morning state police reported an accident at mile marker 170 on Interstate 81 north of Buchanan. A tractor trailer overturned and blocked the southbound lane. One lane was opened by 6:30 a.m., reported Sgt. Rob Carpentieri of the state police.

Rec Dept sponsored conditioning and strength workshop at The Edge

These high school students wait for some Edge conditioning!

These high school students wait for some Edge conditioning!

Botetourt Parks and Recreation has terrific attendance in the Strength and Conditioning Classes meeting morning and afternoon Monday through Wednesday at The Edge. The classes offered students a break in after holiday hum drum at home! They filled quickly, too.

Botetourt youth ages 6-12 participate in the morning classes and afternoons are filled by ages 13-17. The classes filled rapidly as the price was right –only $40 for the three day three hour sessions. A really good way to burn those holiday calories! The participants ran, worked on agility, and also on quickness in the sessions coached  by The Edge staff. The Edge is located in the former Ice Palace building on Tom Andrews Road in Roanoke.

These classes and many other recreation classes, trips and events filled the calendar at Botetourt Parks and Recreation in 2009 thanks to Pete Peters and his staff. Look for more to come in 2010 including a 6  member team Dodge Ball tourney at LBHS coming in March (in conjunction with the school.) For more info call Angie Crawford at 473-8326.
