How are your roads?
The plows came through my back road near Fincastle around mid-day, but I’m not sure I’d call the roads “clear” by any means. There’s a lot of ice, still, under the snow. Some vehicles have braved the road, but not many.
What are the roads like in your part of Botetourt? You can leave comments below.

You can keep up with the weather news on weather journalist Kevin Myatt’s Weather Journal blog. There’s also a snowcam in downtown Roanoke that’s pretty cool, too.

Not quite sure the northern half of Old Fincastle Road is cleared. Looking down the hill through the trees it looks pretty much like the rest of the landscape. These secondary roads are vital to all of the residents as not everyone has 4 wheel drive vehicles yet most have to be able to get to primary roads like 220 to get to work and earn a living to pay for heating costs, etc. I have heard that due to some problems with contracting with independents for snow plow service that there are not as many willing to do the work for less pay this year. If true, this needs to be looked at harshly for a responsible determination of how this affects the citizens. At least the worst of the snows have hit on the weekend and with a little earnest plowing and sunshine they tend to clear up passably with caution.
Well Rick, The trucks are out but the blades are UP!
They went by house at least 10 times last night, but they
didn’t push any snow. This morning when I went out to get
the paper, there were on 1 set of tracks. Yep, right in the
middle of the street. On cars were parked anywhere, so what
the problem was, I don’t know. Perhaps they get paid according
to the no. of miles they drive.
I live on a dirt road and the plowed the dirt road but not the main road. It was horrible trying to get to work this morning. I don’t understand why our roads can not be cleared. We pay taxes and can not even drive on the roads.
