Photo: 5th Graders proudly represent Troutville Elementary at County 4-H Competition

On Friday, March 26, seven Troutville Elementary School 5th graders participated in the County-Wide 4-H Presentation/Speech Contest held at Read Mountain Middle School.  The students were selected from among their peers during in-school presentations to represent their school in the county contest.  They all made wonderful presentations and earned high marks for their efforts.  Rachel Bray, Ethan Humbert, Lindsay Woldman, Morgan Ratcliffe, and Matthew Whitely received blue ribbons; and Eric Reynolds and Maranda Switzer earned red ribbons.  The five blue ribbon winners also were named Champions in their respective areas and will move on to the Northwest District contest in Rockbridge County in late April.

Good luck to those moving on and congratulations to all our students…we are so proud of you!

Sheriff’s Office updates website, botetourtsheriff.org

Lt. Jeff Stritesky, Crime Prevention Specialist, for the Botetourt County Sheriff’s Department advices citizens to check out the updated website BotetourtSheriff.org

The website has interesting information about public safety in the county, different departments like animal control and links to many, many organizations. A personal favorite to pop up (besides a link to the Botetourt View,) is a traffic camera on I-81 near Exit 150. A link to the Botetourt GIS system is also on the site.

“It is a way for the public to get to know the county and provides information on local law enforcement,” said Sheriff Ronnie Sprinkle.

Lori Sibley and Dan Bowser two teachers at JRHS who were good sports and agreed to have their hair colored pink for Relay for Life fundraising goals at the school

The Knight Crawlers Relay for Life team is raising funds in a big way for the cause. Each time a  fund raising bench mark is reached, some faculty or administrator gets a pink dye job! So far they have raised almost a thousand dollars and Lori Sibley and Dan Bowser have taken the pink plunge! Thanks to the expert coloring jobs done by Phyllis Pratt’s cosmetology students at BTEC, the pair of teachers are sporting brightly colored locks!

Principal Jamie Talbott is the top prize. If the students raise $2,500, he will become the “Pink” principal. Said Talbott, “I am getting nervous.” Stay tuned for more!
