OFFICIAL CALL MASS MEETING OF THE BOTETOURT COUNTY
As chairman of the Botetourt County Committee of the Republican Party, and pursuant to the Plan of Organization and as recommended and directed by the Committee, I, Doug Gimbert, do hereby issue this call for a mass meeting to be held at Read Mountain Middle School, 182 Orchard Hill Drive, Cloverdale, Virginia, starting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20, with registration from 6:30 to 7 p.m. for the following purposes:
a) Electing a Unit Chairman;
b) Electing members of the Unit Committee and magisterial district chairmen;
c) Electing up to 385 delegates and an equal number of alternates to the Sixth District Congressional Convention, to be held on May 22, at the Towns Alumnae Center, 1971 University Blvd., (Liberty University), Lynchburg, VA, beginning at 10:00 AM, with registration from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, for the purpose of electing a District Chairman; three Regional Vice Chairmen; and for the transaction of such other business as may properly come before the convention. Each Unit is entitled to one (1) Delegate Vote per 250 Republican votes for Governor and President at their last election, so that Botetourt County is entitled to 77 delegate votes at the Sixth District Convention;
Qualifications for Participation
All legal and qualified voters of Botetourt County under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, who are in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and who, if requested, express in open meeting either orally or in writing as may be required, their intent to support all of its nominees for public office in the ensuing election, may participate as members of the Republican Party of Virginia in its mass meetings, party canvasses, conventions or primaries encompassing their respective election districts.
In addition to the foregoing, to be in accord with the principles of the Republican Party, unless otherwise stipulated by the appropriate Official Committee, a person otherwise qualified hereunder shall not have participated in Virginia in the nomination process of a party other than the Republican Party after March 1, 2004, or in the last five years, whichever is more recent.
A single exception to this shall be approved for a voter that renounces affiliation with any other party in writing, and who expresses in writing that he/she is in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and intends, at the time of this writing, to support the nominees of the Republican Party in the future. Any voter that utilizes the foregoing exception, and thereafter participates in the nomination process of a party other then the Republican Party, shall not have the benefit of the exception thereafter.
Pre-filing/Registration Requirements and Fees
Candidates for County Committee Chairman, to be elected at said Mass Meeting, must be registered voters and shall pre-file a written statement, including their residence address, along with a Pre-filing fee of $10.00.
Botetourt County Republican Committee member – $10.00 annual dues. When pre-filing, the first year dues to be paid with the pre-filing form. Application allowed at the Mass Meeting.
A voluntary registration fee of $20.00 for the Sixth District Convention is requested from all Delegates/Alternate Delegates. Pre-filing is available, with registration also at the Mass Meeting.
There will be a registration fee of $5.00 that is required to participate in this Mass Meeting.
All pre-filing must be received at: Botetourt County GOP, P.O. Box 702, Daleville, VA 24083, no later then by 5:00 PM, Tuesday, April 13, 2010. Postmarks will not rule.
