Photos: Toliver retires from BCPS and family honors him with picnic

James Toliver of Daleville worked 43 years and he spent the last 19  years as a school bus driver for Botetourt County Public Schools on  a regular route and an activities bus for after school.  “The kids on the bus called him Mr. T, ” said his daughter Charlotte Toliver who works at Lord Botetourt High School. “Mr. Bane our principal called him “Chief,” she said. In those 19 years of driving, Toliver never missed a day of service.

His daughters Doris and Charlotte held a surprise cook out for him on July 10. “He is hard to surprise,” remarked Charlotte. He has been surprised though with the  new grandson, Doris’s  infant son James,III. Friends and family gathered to eat steak, fixings  and send well wishes to Toliver.  “So far he is enjoying retirement and has been catching up on his fishing,” said Charlotte with a laugh.

Best wishes to “Mr. T” for a long and happy retirement!
