Cloverdale students learn Marimba tune
On a rainy Monday the sun shone inside Cloverdale Elementary School as Richard Randolph taught third graders how to play the song “Ants Working.” A happy song of repetitive beats, the marimba tune came from the Africa country of Zimbabwe.
Randolph, a local musician who often is accompanied by steel drums, helped the students prepare the Marimba tune to be played for parents at the next PTA meeting. He played the bongo drum as they played the marimbas– keyboards of wood struck with sticks. Mike Milam, the music teacher, floated around the room listening to his students. In the end he had 15 students raring to play “Ants Working” for the PTA.
