Read Mountain club sponsors Soup for Seniors drive

The Read Mountain Middle School F.O.R. (Friends of Rachel) club recently sponsored a Soup For Seniors drive. Homerooms were challenged to collect soup and crackers to aid the Roanoke Valley League of Older Americans in preparing food packages for low income seniors. The LOA goal was to collect 30,000 cans, and the F.O.R. club helped to collect 493 cans from the students. In addition, sixteen boxes of crackers were collected. All of these were combined with other collections from around the valley as a part of a wider Make a Difference Day. The F.O.R club is a program designed to promote compassion and kindness among the middle school students, and it is sponsored by Mrs. Summer Underwood.
