2. All bulk (approximately 10 lbs.) plastic bags of Soybean Sprouts. The packages were neither coded nor labeled.

Photos: James River pitcher is nearly perfect in big win over Bath County

James River pitcher Brandon Welch threw a perfect game (no hits, no walks, no errors) into the fifth and final inning of Friday’s game at Bath County before finally giving up a bloop single to right field.

Welch’s nearly-perfect day came as James River batters pounded the ball at the plate. Three Knights hit home runs — Jaret White, Mitchell Lanning, and Keith Yancey, in that order — as James River cruised to a 15-0 win in a game ended after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

A baseball parent shares this photo gallery.

The purple boxes are back

You may start to notice some purple boxes hanging from trees around Botetourt County — some are already up.

They’re part of the Emerald Ash Borer Trapping Survey, run by the Virginia Department of Forestry.

Here’s a link to the story we did about them last year. These photos are on Mount Pleasant Church Road near Fincastle.
