RMMS State winning Forestry team Caleb Rich, Katelyn Stevens, Tess Seibel and Claire Seibel.

Continuing their string of  wins, the FFA and RMMS forestry team adds another title to the 2011-12 school year!

This from Amy Stevens, FFA RMMS sponsor:

RMMS FFA 1st in State

“Read Mountain Middle School FFA took first place in the State FFA Junior Forestry Career Development Event held May 10 at Fairy Stone State Park in Stewart, VA. Team members Caleb Rich, Katelyn Stevens, Tess Seibel and Claire Seibel competed against 7 other top Junior FFA teams from across Virginia. They qualified for the event in the fall by being the first place Junior Forestry Team for the Northern Area. The event provides FFA members an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of trees and forestry-related topics. The event includes the following events: tree identification, equipment identification, calculation of DBH, map interpretation, and much more. They will be recognized at the 86th State FFA Convention on June 18-21, 2012 at Virginia Tech. Special thanks goes out to Kevin Keith, Forester of Henry County for setting up the events.”
