Roanoke Contra Dance is Saturday, May 19
Contra dance is both great exercise and a fun social activity for the whole family. Contra dance is a folk dance in which couples dance in two facing lines, led by a caller with music provided by a live band. This form of dancing has very old traditional roots both in the United States and in Europe. Couples, singles, families and groups are welcome. Appropriate for ages 8 and up. Beginners are always welcome.
The Roanoke Contra Dance usually meets on the fourth Saturday of every month, but this month it has been moved to the third Saturday, May 19, at the Kirk Family YMCA, 520 Church Ave. Suggested donations are $8 adults, $5 students. Beginner workshop starts at 7 p.m.; dance begins at 7:30 p.m. Find us on Facebook at Roanoke Contra Dance or check www.RoanokeContra.org for details.
