SSG Christopher Walker lost both of his arms and a leg in Afghanistan in April. A group of  Veterans on motorcycles, friends and citizens of Buchanan turned out for Walker’s appearance at the Buchanan Carnival Grounds on June 16. Registration for the Benefit ride took place on in English Park near the River in Altavista where Congressman Robert Hurt spoke.   The group  was joined by Rolling Thunder out of Lynchburg and Diamond Back Cruisers from Buchanan. Buchanan Vice Mayor Carson Skaggs dressed in biker regalia,  told the gathering of over 100 peo0ple, ” Don’t ever forget the sacrifice this young man and others have made.” 125 motocycle riders made the 80 mile trip.

Walker who is from Altavista, thanked every one for coming and he and his daughter Kali and mother, Donna were honored by the crowd as well as the DAV Color  guard. The Diamond Back Cruisers, Town officials,  the Buchanan Fire Department and many others  worked hard to make the final destination of the Christiopher Walker Benefit Motorcycle and Car Run a friendly and welcoming place.

Walker told the Botetourt View, “I will be in the hospital (Walter Reid) for another year possibly two years.”
