Peter Tainer did not make the London cut for the Paralympics, but had good showing
Regarding Peter Tainer, the recent graduate of LBHS who went to the Paralympic trials in Indianapolis last week:
“First of all, thank you all for your support and encouragement over this past year as Peter Tainer has begun and concluded his journey for trying out for the U.S. Paralympic Team for London. It’s very comforting to know that when we travel elsewhere, there is a tremendous amount of support from our friends and family back home.”
“As you know, we traveled to Indianapolis, IN this past week for the U.S. Paralympic Trials. Pete competed in the 100m, 200m, and 400m dashes. All were very competitive races in that former world champions and gold and silver medalists were also toeing the line. Pete was fortunate enough to be in several races where American records were set as well as a World record 100m time by Great Britain’s Jonnie Peacock (10.85)! Pete had some wonderful performances himself. He set his own personal record (PR) in the 100m dash with a time of 13.36, and also a PR in the 400m dash with a time of 1:00.25!”
” Less than 13 months ago, Pete competed in his first Paralympic event. A few days ago, he was running with the best in the world fighting for one of those coveted 54 spots on the U.S. Paralympic team. This year has obviously been quite a ride and the experience has been surreal.”
“Though his London games pursuit has come to an end, his Paralympic journey has only begun. Pete is one of the younger athletes in the program, so his future in the sport looks very promising. Right now, he’ll take a much needed break then begin his training again. Between now and 2016 (Rio de Janeiro), he has several opportunities to compete on a both a National and World stage again. For instance, next summer will be the U.S. Paralympic Nationals which will determine who competes at the World Championships in France! The journey continues…..”
“We are very excited for the men and women who were chosen for the U.S. Paralympic team! We are even more proud to be able to call them friends now and we wish them the best in London. Please make a point to follow the U.S. Paralympic team while they compete in the London Games. You can find them at www.usparalympics.org or find them on Facebook and Twitter (@USParalympics). .”
