Photos: Blue Ridge Rays win championship

The Blue Ridge Rays recently won the Botetourt County machine pitch post season double elimination tournament. The Rays staged an unbelievable run winning six straight elimination games in five days, after a tough opening round loss. Following the first game, the Rays outscored their opponents in the next four games by a total of 70 to 18 to make it back to the winners bracket. That set the stage for the Rays to win the tournament, but to do so they had to beat the Greenfield A’s twice in one night. The Rays won the first game 12 to 7 which set up one final game. In the final game, the Rays led 8 to 4 entering the last inning before Greenfield stormed back to score 6 runs. Down 10 to 8 and their last bat with two outs, the Rays rallied to score 3 runs and take the crown. The coaches and parents are all very proud of the kids for their remarkable tournament and regular season.
