Maggie Grumbine of Fincastle attends Girls State at Longwood University

More than 600 elite rising high school students, including Maggie Grumbine of Fincastle, who attends James River High School, participated in the 38th annual Girls State held at Longwood University on June 10-16. Styled as an immersion into American government, delegates run their own cities and create their own executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government. Guest speakers include Gov. Bob McDonnell, Lt. Gov William T. Bolling, Justice of the Supreme Court and former Attorney General Honorable William C. Mims, New York Times best-selling and award-winning author Nancy Redd, and U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs’ Under Secretary for Benefits Allison Hickey.
