Feed the Hungry food drive at Friday’s Lord Botetourt game
If you’re going to the Lord Botetourt at Cave Spring football game Friday, here’s something to be aware of — there’s a food drive going on.
Here’s a release with details:
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is partnering with Governor McDonnell as well as the Governors of Maryland and West Virginia who have declared September 29th a Regional Day to Serve focused on feeding the hungry. As a result September has been designated Hunger Action Month. The Mormon Church will be donating truckloads of food valued at over $200,000 to food banks throughout the region.Over 32,000 pounds of this food will be delivered to Feeding America, Southwest Virginia in Salem in the coming weeks. In addition to this contribution, congregations (wards) in the Roanoke Virginia Stake (Salem, Vinton, Roanoke, Cave Spring, Back Creek, Bedford, Rocky Mount, & Martinsville) will be working this month in food pantries and doing other service projects relating to feeding the hungry. We hope to partner with other churches and challenge them as well to work towards this worthy cause.
This Friday, the Back Creek Ward will be at the football game between Cave Spring and Lord Botetourt to collect canned/non-perishable food to deliver to Feeding America Southwest Virginia as part of this effort.
