Terrific Tuesday: Call it a day
Hey it’s Terrific Tuesday again! How’s everything in your neck of the woods?Today my oldest son Brian is 23. He is at Tech and well, I am glad I had the opportunity to see him last night. How I miss the days of fun parties and toy gifts!
I am ready to call it a day. The rain has bummed me out and well, some days are better than others.
First we have had numerous comments on the blog about the speed limit on country roads. I agree with both. Mind the speed limits posted and don’t tail gate especially for young and inexperienced drivers. As for poke- a -longs and you know who they are on your road, stop it!!! They pull out in front from side roads in the only burst of speed they have and then go 20 mph. Farmer Brown goes putt putt either in his truck or tractor. Back when my Daddy was Farmer Brown he would pull off the road and let traffic pass as he was a gentleman. That sadly is no longer the case most of the time. Making people follow behind just to toot your kazoo is not cool.
Changing speed limits in unsafe areas is cool. Neighborhoods do not need 55 mph even in the boondocks. If you hit a deer, well it happens. I spent months trying to get over one hitting me. I was going the posted speed limit. We live in a county full of deer. Look carefully when you drive. Always, paying attention is a good idea. But they will dart out. Deer are just like that with a Kamikaze nature.
Put the cell phone in the glove box. I have started zippering mine up. If you think someone might be driving, don’t call or text. Send a text later. For me an annoyance? I am usually at the Roanoke Times on Monday and Friday and when people call me either at the time I would be driving one way or the other and ask me, ” What are you doing?” Well geez, I cannot repeat what goes through my head! The rest of the time I am driving around Botetourt. I just get incommunicado basically because having tried three different carriers, cell phone service in this county stinks.
I love Facebook messages much more than any other communication. They seem somewhat clandestine. A message rather than a post. Oh boy!
I’ve said enough. I am going to call it a day and not on my cell phone either! See ya next week.

Being a wife of a farmer who has to take his equipment on the busy roads in Botetourt County to get from one end of the farm to the other, your comments about “Farmer Brown” were offensive and selfish. My “Farmer Brown” puts his life in danger every time he has to drive equipment on the road due to the impatient, self-absorbed drivers who think their time is more precious than anyone elses. Because of the narrow roads, there is not always a safe place to pull over and let traffic go by. And believe me, my “Farmer Brown” would much rather have traffic go safely around him than follow on his rear and blow the horn. So the next time you get behind “Famer Brown” just think about where your salad veggies, your watermelon, and your milk come from and how it gets from the field and farm to your table. Thanks for letting me vent.
As the daughter of a former Farmer Brown I know it can be dangerous. He would pull over and wave around. However, letting a line of traffic form when there are places to pull over is not any less dangerous. People pull around the vehicle out of frustration on unlined roads. Impatient. Hmm the roads have a posted speed limit or a stated 55 miles per hour by state code if not posted at less. Impeding traffic can be just as dangerous. Don’t mean to ruffle your feather’s but courtesy either way can be lacking. Respect of others is taught in elementary school and that works both ways. As much as I like watermelon, there are days when when I start out in plenty of time and these situations cause problems for me and any one else who has to follow along. The speed limit on my road is an incredible 55 miles per hour. 40 mph is pushing it but in the opposite 15-20 mph is just not cool. And you can vent any time you want. That should be the beauty of this country of ours. The right to free speech!
