First graders at Troutville Elementary School celebrated Fire Safety Week with a visit from the Fincastle Fire and Rescue.  The students learned the importance of a family meeting place outside of the home in the event of a fire and how to stay low to the ground away from smoke when exiting.  Firefighter Jeff put on his firefighter gear so students could see what a firefighter would look like with it on so they wouldn’t be frightened if a firefighter is needed to help them in an emergency.  The visit concluded outside of the classroom where students learned all about the fire truck and ambulance.  Students were allowed to walk through the ambulance and with assistance practice spraying a fire extinguisher!
