Parks and rec adds Great Beginnings basketball programs for kids starting November 11
Botetourt County Parks and Recreation sends this update on upcoming events. New to the list: The Great Beginnings basketball programs for kids.
* On November 3, 2012 from 9am to 11am, BASKETBALL CAMP FOR BOYS AND GIRLS, at LB High School. The Basketball Coaches and Players will be showing you the basics of Basketball. Girls and Boys are encouraged to come out for a fun-filled camp. The cost if $15.00 per child and includes 2 hours of instruction and a T-Shirt. For Ages 6 to 15. Wear loose comfortable clothes, tennis shoes and bring a water bottle.
* November 11 thru December 9, 2012, Five Sundays from 4 to 5pm, GREAT BEGINNINGS BASKETBALL WITH ED GREEN, for ages 4, 5, 6, and 7. A five week instructional program that prepares a child for the challenges of organized sports in a non-threatening atmosphere. This program is designed for parents and their children to have fun using a basketball in order to develop motor skills, cognitive abilities and social interaction. Cost of the clinic is $65.00, payable to Ed Green. To register, call Ed Green at (540) 387-9516.
* December 1, 2012, from 9am to 12 Noon at James River High School Gym, Ages 5 to 13 – WRESTLING CLINIC AT JAMES RIVER. This clinic is for the novice to expert level. The coaches will introduce the basics of wrestling and try to advance the skills of the more experienced wrestlers. Participants will have the opportunity to wrestle in live matches. You will be coached by B. Haynie and Jeb Wright of LBHS, T. Jenkins of JRHS, S. Anderson of RMMS, and B. Toliver of North Cross. Cost: $15.00.

TWO SPECIAL EVENTS
Fifteen Botetourt County artists have joined with the Botetourt County Office of Tourism for the second annual self-guided driving tour of artists’ working studios. Enjoy this free event and rare opportunity to visit the artists in their studios and homes, viewing their rich and varied works. You will have a chance to purchase original artwork and learn about the tools and materials the artists used to create their artwork.
Be sure to pick up your “Passport Card” at your first stop and have your card stamped at each studio you visit. Then leave the card at the last studio visited and be entered to win a $150 gift certificate towards an art purchase of your own. You are welcome to visit one studio or all of them.
