ABC is now collecting tax deductible donations at store registers to help Virginians who suffered losses from Hurricane Sandy this October.
“Super Storm Sandy” affected millions of people along the eastern seaboard. While federal relief dollars are going up north to those states hit hardest by the storm, there are still many residents of the Commonwealth who suffered losses as a result of the hurricane. The Governor is encouraging Virginians, who are able, to help their fellow citizens by making a tax deductable-donation.
Contributions will go to the Virginia Disaster Relief Fund established by Gov. Bob McDonnell and administered by the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM). Donations will be accepted via cash, credit or debit cards. Store associates will issue a receipt for each tax-deductible donation.
ABC’s Information Technology and Wholesale/Retail divisions developed the capability last year that allows donations through the store point-of-sale (POS) systems and electronically transfers them to the relief fund. The programming is designed to handle future collections as well as collect for several different funds at one time. (Currently, donations are designated for the Virginia Disaster Relief Fund only.)
Donations are accepted at every ABC store in the commonwealth. Interested parties also may donate to the Virginia Disaster Relief Fund online at: https://payments.vi.virginia.gov/donatenow/.
