Botetourt County 4-H Kids & Critters Club needs help as they give back to the senior citizen’s of Botetourt County
The Botetourt County 4-H Kid’s & Critters Club are giving back to the County that has given so much to the local 4-H program. Weeks of thinking and creative ideas led them to Robyn Dobbyns and the Botetourt Resource Center where they learned about the nationwide “Socks for Senior’s” program. The more they learned about this opportunity the more they realized that this was a wonderful chance to provide for an often over-looked population – our county’s senior citizens.
The program is simple. Collect socks – men’s, women’s, white, brown, solid, multi-colored, fun patterns, single pairs or multiple packs. Deliver them to The Botetourt Resource Center and watch as they are distributed to the elderly right here at home. This group of 13 young 4-Her’s ages 9 – 19 has set a goal of 500 pairs to be collected and distributed in Botetourt County and they need YOUR help.
As you go about your daily or weekly routine of grocery shopping or running errands, please consider taking time to purchase a pair of socks that will then help a Botetourt County Senior Citizen. Several of the schools in Botetourt County, along with county businesses and churches, are working in cooperation with the 4-H Kids & Critters Club to meet the 500 pair goal – a special THANK YOU to all those who have so graciously agreed to let us place collection boxes for this project.
You can find collection boxes in the following locations, ready and willing to accept your sock donations: Lord Botetourt High School, Read Mountain Middle School, Central Academy Middle School, Buchanan Elementary, Breckinridge Elementary, Greenfield Elementary, Blue Ridge Autism Center, Remax Realty (Daleville Location), Southern States Roanoke Cooperative (Alternate 220 location), Blue Ridge Farm Center, Botetourt County Clerk of Court, Botetourt County Treasurer’s Office, Botetourt County Extension, Eagle Rock Baptist Church, and Woodland Church.
Boxes will be in place through Friday, November 30th or you can bring your sock donations to the 2012 Fincastle Christmas Parade and give them to the Botetourt County 4-H Kid’s & Critters members as their float travels the parade route. The season of giving is upon us and we hope you’ll help us give back to those here at home.
