County Council of PTA’s wish list for next budget year
Yearly, the County Council of PTA’s presents a wish list of items to the Botetourt County school board prior to the budget sessions in January. Jodie Weideman, president of the CCPTAS presented the list at the November School Board meeting.
The list includes the following garnered from all members representing the schools in Botetourt. She acknowledged it would be a tough budget year, but presented the list as smaller than usual.
Staffing Needs: All asked to keep same staff and reduce class size.
Buchanan and Troutville– reduce class size grades 3-5
Troutville–add a Math specialsit and keep the reading specialist
Read Mountain–Retain all current staff.
Central Academy–keep school resource officer.
Technology:
All elementary schools upgrade audio/sound system
All Schools–additional iPads
Troutville- wireless accessibility throughout the school
Colonial, Buchanan and Troutville–more interactive boards
Safety and Maintenance:
Colonial–new building; drivers license security swipe
Troutville– all outside doors fitted with new hardware.
Buchanan–repave/resurface kindergarten playground; handrails for the steps to the front parking lot.
Read Mountain– bleachers at the softball field; if posssible, moving scoreboard because it cannot be read when the sun is out; new office furniture.
James River–Tile replaced in the bathrooms; improvement to sewer exhaust system to correct problem of untimely out put.
Lord Botetourt– more security cameras with updated electrical system to handle the cameras.
Materials:
Troutville–classroom books of varying levels for the reading program.
Read Mountain–flutes and trumpets for the band
Lord Botetourt– k-12 encyclopedias online
Breckinridge–Classroom management boards; clean slate swipe off boards; nonfiction classroom books for the reading program.
