Cub Cafe open for biz at Breckinridge Elementary School!

The Breckinridge cafeteria  has brightened with bears and on Monday 19, had parent, Pilgrims and Indians dining in style as well. The students at Breckinridge are called the bears. Students picked out the name for the repainted cafeteria, appropriately,   ” Cub Cafe.” Hand prints of students rather than paw prints cover the bright yellow walls beneath paintings of Fincastle historic land marks.

Chris Morris Food Services Specialist for Botetourt School division  came to see the  Kindergarden  students and their parents have lunch after the Thanksgiving program. She applauded Edwards efforts. “Students and several faculty members are painted the bear filled artwork along the back walls and side walls.” Like the local landscape, bears are every where  at Breckinridge!

Cafeteria manager JoAnn Edwards said, “The  room had not been  redone since the 1980s, I felt it was time.” After leaving LBHS to come Breckinridge as manager, she decided a facelift was a great way to change up the cafeteria.” She used bright yellow paint and allowed the students to make hand prints. For those in Kindergarden now, they will be able to watch their hand prints grow through 5th grade!

Thanks for sharing the pictures. What a nice addition to the walls at dear old Breckinridge. I was the principal back in the 80s when the historic landmarks were painted by students on the walls and I am glad to see that you have incorporated them in to the newly redecorated cafeteria.
