Morris yard gets an uplift from BTEC Landscape and FFA students
Helen Morris resides in Fincastle and her garden and yard had gotten a bit out of hand over the summer. The BTEC Landscape students came to help the former mayor recently and learned that a rake, bags and elbow grease can make an impact not only on a yard but also in the life of a senior citizen. Applying “book learning” can make a further impact in the Morris yard next spring as well as give students practical skills for future endeavors in what is literally “lab work” in the community service project.
Instructor Jan Hendrickson said, “The BTEC Landscaping students took advantage of the nice weather on Fri., Oct. 26 to help Morris of Fincastle, and clean up her garden for the winter. The students pulled up all the dead and dying vegetation, pruned low-hanging limbs from trees, and stored the garden irrigation system for the winter. This is one of the service projects that the BTEC FFA members performed this semester.”
