Steger president elect of LSU graduate bank school
Buchanan, VA – Bank of Botetourt is pleased to announce that H. Watts Steger III was named President Elect of The Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University. Steger, Chairman and CEO, of Botetourt Bankshares, Inc. was elected at a meeting of the school’s Board of Trustees on October 12, 2012.
A native of Pulaski, VA, he is an alumnus of Hampden-Sydney College. He is also a graduate of the Virginia Bankers School of Bank Management at the University of Virginia and the Graduate School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University. Steger began his banking career at Bank of Botetourt in 1971 as a Management Trainee and became Chief Executive Officer in 1976, President in 1984, and Chairman of the Board in 2001. He retired as Chief Executive Officer of Bank of Botetourt in June 2010, but continues serving as Chairman and CEO of Botetourt Bankshares, Inc.
Active for many years in Virginia banking leadership positions, including past Chairman of the Virginia Bankers Association and the Virginia Association of Community Banks, he currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Virginia Bankers Association and is Chairman of the VBA Education Foundation.
The purpose of the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University is to fill the need for graduate level study by bank officers meeting admission requirements leading toward a broader knowledge and understanding of major banking functions. Completion of the program has become a requisite to professional advancement in many banks.
Established in 1899, Bank of Botetourt has ten branch offices located in Botetourt, Franklin, Roanoke and Rockbridge Counties.
