Breckinridge Elementary celebrated Veterans Day with program

On Thursday morning, November 8th Breckinridge Elementary School hosted a Veteran’s Day program in the gym.   To begin the program, the cub scouts from troop 333 presented the colors and led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance followed by all singing the “The Star Spangled Banner”.   Mrs. Debra Deitrich, principal, gave the opening remarks and introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Erik Fox.   Mr. Fox, a parent of two Breckinridge students and husband to Mrs. Fox, a second grade teacher at the school, presented a Powerpoint presentation and told about his time at the Naval Academy in Maryland.  While serving in the navy, Mr. Fox was an officer aboard a submarine.  The students learned a lot about living on a submarine.  Mr. Fox also spoke on the rewards of the military including lifelong friendships, and he also spoke about some of the hardships like being separated from loved ones for long periods of time.

Next, students from Breckinridge’s Journey class shared their poems and reflections showing their appreciation for our veterans.  All of the Breckinridge students under the direction of their music teacher, Mrs. Kim Hardy, sang the song “Thank You, Soldiers” to honor the veterans.  Handmade cards from the students were presented to all of the veterans as the song for their branch of service was played.  The assembly closed with all of the veterans, teachers, staff and students singing “God Bless America” together.
