JRHS Key Club raised over 400 toys for Marine Corps League in Lexington
Area children were the recipients of over 400 Christmas Toys for Tots raised by the James River High School Key Club. While the students of JRHS donated text messages so Staunton River High School could win the annual concert, the toys went to the Marine Corps League 1351 in Lexington. The Marine Corps League had families in Rockbridge and Botetourt counties waiting for the toys and bikes. SRHS lost four students in a period of a week to car crashes associated with Route 24, so the Knights senior class asked to donate the JRHS texts to them.
Area citizens and Gala Industries also sent toys to the school for the drive.
Said spanish teacher Lindsey Price of the toy drive, who is one of he sponsors, “We did really well with our collection this year and Mrs. Carolyn Shotwell’s first block class won the party for the most toys donated.” The winning class will recieve a party of either pizza, breakfast or ice cream.
