Appalachian plans Cloverdale substation expansion
Appalachian Power Co. is planning a $230 million expansion to a cluster of substations and power lines in Cloverdale. An informational meeting will be held on Jan. 31 at Cloverdale Elementary School from 5-8 p.m. The State Corporation Commission will issue final approval for the project.
The 500-kilovolt, 22-acre substation would be built on property already owned by the utility near the intersection of U.S. 220 and Interstate 81 in southern Botetourt County, not far from an existing two-part substation.
