Hey It’s Terrific Tuesday again. How’s everything in your neck of the woods? I have pictured a fat Robin seen in a flock yesterday in a yard on Glebe Road. You will never convince me that these birds have been hiding in the woods all winter. These guys are coming from down south where the juicy, green bugs grow all year long and they have waxed fat upon them prior to flying north.
Last week I rattled some cages. Not sure there isn’t a bounty on my head, yet I am driving with my high beams on ’cause maybe next week I will have a real story for you. We will wait and see how that pans out.
I desire transparent government. To defend the first amendment, that’s what a free press is supposed to do– keep an eye on those who want to conceal and keep us in the dark. I believe all of you have the right to know how your money is spent. It’s a democracy in action when we all participate or get the opportunity to do so. Wake up fellow Botetourt Countian and smell the dairy air. Over near Fincastle, it is stinking in more ways than on the farm.
The citizen deserves the representation he or she voted for and should feel like they are held in high esteem as a voter. Sadly Congress has given me a jaundiced eye the past couple of years and so has The General Assembly. My reaction? “Oh no, not here, too!” Right now, the largest two districts by population density, Valley and Blue Ridge have no member on the Supervisor’s county budget committee. I’ll let you dear reader in those areas decide how you feel about that. Neither Mac Scothorn nor Billy Martin are part of the budget committee process other than getting a budget book or phone calls. To quote my oldest son Brian, “Just sayin’ and “It is what it is.”
Please feel free to comment as some of those in high roosts read this little column.
My mother, God rest her soul, a part time politico in her own right, worked on the redistrict from three to five Supervisors back in the 70s. It earned her the ire of a newspaper editor. Funny how time and politics will make strange bedfellows. Here in the past few years that is what I have been doing in reverse. I am earning the ire of some politicos as a newspaper reporter. HA! Hooray for the first Amendment!
See ya next week.
