Blake Myers joins Virginia State Olympic Development Program
Blake Myers, a 7th grade student at Read Mountain Middle School and member of the U13 Roanoke Star Elite Team, was recently selected to participate in the 2013 Virginia State Olympic Development Program. The program is a statewide program that is aimed at helping to identify the top players in the country. Players initially take part in district training that is held here in Roanoke as the Western District ODP program. The players then proceed to State tryouts where players from 3 additional districts (North, South and East) all meet to try out for the State Pool. The players selected for the State pool will participate in a further period of state training before trying out for the Regional teams. Virginia is a part of Region 1 soccer in the USA and has long been considered a powerhouse for youth soccer.
It is a great accomplishment for these players to be selected and Roanoke Star is delighted that the players have been recognized by their selection. Our Director of Coaching & Player Development, Graham Maclean, is also the Head Coach for the West District and was especially pleased to see so many Roanoke Star players selected for the state pools. He commented that “it is very pleasing that these players have been selected. Without exception these players have shown great commitment to the game and to their development. We are delighted that they will now have the opportunity to represent our club and district at the state level and we are all very confident that they will do so in exemplary fashion.”
