Since the school year began, 3rd grader Elijah Dalton who has cancer has been absent from the building but present in the hearts and minds of his classmates at Troutville Elementary School. On Wednesday Feb. 13, the school presented the Dalton family with a check for over $2,400 raised over the past five months. Elijah  is doing better, but planned a trip to Duke University Medical Center for Valentine’s Day. He became ill over the 2012 Easter holiday, and was diagnosed with a Stage 3 Neuroblastoma in his abdomen. To make a donation, checkout how on his Facebook page.  His parents Cameron and Tanya and little brother Mason were on hand for the presentation made by PE teacher Bev Hart on behalf of the school.

A separate fund raiser  not associated with the school featuring a number of bands, will take place on March 24 from 2-10 at Schooners on the Williamson Road and Peters Creek Rd Corner. Bands include Cimmaron, The Relic, Against the Grain, The Jimmy Wilson Road Show, and Gloom, Despair and Agony. There will be raffle prizes and 50/50 as well.
