The State of Virginia designated by code a change to EMS reponse time intervals for local EMS services. Each locality had to adopt a plan based on response times. Jason Ferguson of EMS listed the proposed plan with response intervals be divided into two different response times. He made the suggestion due to the nature of the county and its large geographic land mass (542 sq. miles) and diverse population locations. He brought the new plan for EMS response interval standards before the Board of Supervisors on Nov. 26, for approval.
The response interval plan included both paid and volunteer emergency personnel.
South County Interval: In the south end of the county, a 12 min response interval is desired. It is the benchmark goal for EMS reponse to emergency situations. A 90% effective time rate is also a goal.
North County Interval: In the north part of the county, the response level is an 18 minute interval. The longer benchmark time is required for the more sparselypopulated and wide open territory. Again, EMS hopes to meet the interval time 90% of the time.
The Board of Supervisors approved the plan.
