Armed with 4,000 toys Savannah Day of Blue Ridge went to Cinncinnati Children’s Hospital earlier this week. Yesterday she had brain surgery.
She had brain surgery for a rare genetic defect called Chiari 1 malformation. “Her brain grew into her spinal column and caused a spinal fluid leak. The result is the surgery at CCH in December,” said her mom Michelle.
Savannah who is 14 and an RMMS student, along with her sisters and family, appealed to the Roanoke Valley for toys since she would be recuperating though Christmas at the hospital. Norfolk Southern shipped the toys to the hospital.
Here is the report from the “Cheer 4 Savannah” Facebook page this morning:
“We are still in the ICU. Savannah had a tough night. No sleep, up most of
the night, throwing up and complaining. I’m told this is to be expected
with brain surgery. But, we are in great hands in ICU!” It is also noted in a photo on the Facebook page that she still “has 90% of her hair!”
