Bob Goodlatte, R-Roanoke County, and now has his winning painting displayed at the U.S. Capitol. Well, now she's joined an Asheville, N.C.-based world-beat band and is touring the country playing saxophone (and sometimes singing) with Laura Reed and Deep Pocket. Even better, the band will be playing up in Floyd County on June 27 at the Sun Music Hall, so any of her friends and fans can say hello there. The band's official website has this to say about its newest member: The Masta Harmoniza brings light, love and a friendly disposition to the Deep Pocket. How about a historical movie and a trip across the United States with Lewis and Clark. Lewis and Clark started out for the west two hundred years ago at the urging of Thomas Jefferson to map the area of the Louisiana Purchase, but not before William Clark stopped by Fincastle to bid adieu to young Julia (Judith) Hancock at Santillane. After the trip west, Clark would come back and marry her. April 1, 2008Buchanan women gather historical garb for Civil War WeekendSifford arrived with an arm load of antebellum dresses, skirts, tops and hats. Among the other goodies were gloves, hair pieces, Cameos, snoods and hair accessories, undergarments and assortment of shawls. She had patterns, books of period dress and plenty of advice for some local women that included Trish Kidd, Gloria Carter, Peggy Ramsey and Debbie Huff. The dresses were wide assortment of styles-- ball gowns in taffeta and day dresses in cotton. The Civil War Weekend is scheduled for Friday through Sunday April 25-27 and will feature a ball on the carnival grounds on Saturday night. Huff who is past president of the Buchanan United Daughters of the Confederacy also had items of clothing to sell.
