Boy Scouts to honor Clarke Andrews, MD as Citizen of theYear May 17

The Catawba District of the Blue Ridge Mountains Council will be hosting its 3rd Annual Botetourt County Citizen of the Year breakfast on May 17th from 7:30 am to 8:30 am at the Family Life Center of the Fincastle United Methodist Church. This year’s honoree is Dr. Clarke Andrews, 30 year Botetourt County physician, dedicated community supporter and area Eagle Scout.

For more than 100 years Scouting has helped more than 110 million boys and young men achieve their fullest potential through leadership, character, responsibility, and service opportunities. Dr. Clarke Andrews exemplifies the teachings of the Boy Scouts and we are honored to recognize Clarke for his accomplishments and dedicated service to the Botetourt County community.

Scouting not only teaches job and career skills it provides learning opportunities that transcend young men to adults. Leadership, Character, Responsibility and Service are primary within all Scout activities and help Scouts to develop the tools necessary to accomplish great things both collectively and individually.

The Blue Ridge Mountains Council serves 21 Counties, 8 Cities and nearly 20,000 youths in central, southwestern, and south side Virginia with 1700 in the Catawba District alone.

In 2011, the Scouts within the Blue Ridge Mountains Council performed over 27,119 hours of service to their local communities. Not only do these activities provide opportunities to our youth but to the communities they serve.

It is incredibly important to not only maintain but to expand upon the institution of Scouting if our communities are to grow, be successful and provide excellent places to raise families and operate businesses.

Please join us in supporting the mission of Scouting and honoring Dr. Clarke Andrews as the 2012 Botetourt County Outstanding Citizen by attending our breakfast ceremony on Thursday May 17th beginning at 7:30 am at the Family Life Center of Fincastle United Methodist Church located at 137 Church Street, Fincastle, VA 24090.

The event breakfast is sponsored by The Bank of Fincastle and prepared by the Fincastle United Methodist Women. Admission and the breakfast are free but donations will be accepted with 100% of the proceeds generated from the event used locally to support Scouting.

Please join us in honoring Botetourt County’s Outstanding Citizen and Eagle Scout, Dr. Clarke Andrews. Please make your reservations by May 15th by notifying Jay Gilliland at The Bank of Fincastle, 473-2761 or jay.gilliland@bankoffincastle.com
