The Yard Dawgs 2020 11U AA baseball team win a Super NIT Tournament in Johnson City, Tenn., on May 5. While the competition was tough, the Yard Dawgs defeated the #1 and #3 ranked teams in Tennessee and then defeated the #1 ranked team in Kentucky in the championship game.

Fincastle Pokemon Gym to host tournament June 2

bot_pokemon_tourney_0517blogThe Fincastle Pokemon Gym is proud to host a Pokemon Premier Tournament. On Sunday, June 2, the Spring Battle Road will pass right through Fincastle. Join us at the Fincastle Library Meeting Room. Registration is from 12 – 1 p.m., and the tournament will begin shortly after registration closes. The number of rounds played will be determined by attendance. If you have questions about the tournament or other Pokemon events, please contact fincastlepokemon@gmail.com. The Fincastle Pokemon League meets weekly at the Fincastle Library Meeting Room – Sundays from 3-5:30 p.m. More information can also be found at www.fincastlepokemon.wordpress.com.

A picture of Triathletes (Left to Right) Silas Miller (3rd grade), Caleb VanBuren (5th grade), and Levi Miller (2nd grade) – all 3 go to Eagle Rock Elementary. They competed in the Alleghany Highlands YMCA Kids Triathlon on April 13th. They had to swim 1/8th of a mile, run 1 mile and then bike 3 miles.

Weather changes Blue Ridge District baseball tournament schedule

Staunton River HS has needed to postpone their quarterfinal baseball game with Northside from today until tomorrow due to water on the field.

This means that the semifinals will be moved from Tuesday to Wednesday.

Here is the new schedule:

Monday – RCHS at LBHS

Tuesday – NHS at SRHS

Wednesday – Semis

Thursday – Finals

The Virginia Scrappers 12U Girls Fastpitch went undefeated, winning the championship in the ASA Terrier Tournament held April 13-14 at the Botetourt Sports Complex.

VMI bound Yana Conrad first JRHS swimmer to commit to college swimming

“Yana Conrad  is the first James River swimmer to make a college swimming commitment,” noted coach Kit Williams. The senior will attend Virginia Military Institute next year. Conrad will be on the Virginia Military Institute women’s swim team. On May 15, surrounded by her parents Sherry and Stan, sisters Alena and Anastasia and coaches and team members. She signed her commitment to swim on the next level.

LBHS soocer player Kennedi VanRavestein committs to Freed-Hardeman Univ.

Note: This has been updated to correct a name.

On May 15, 2013 in the Lord Botetourt library,  Kennedi VanRavestein committed to play soccer at Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, TN.  VanRavestein thanked her family, coaches and teammates. Even her brother Aaron said he was proud of her! VanRavestein has been a strong soccer player as well as a a basketball player for the Cavaliers over the past four years.
