Two of the ones he mentions have been in Botetourt -- one at Fincastle Baptist Church, the other in Buchanan sponsored by Mill Creek Baptist, with help from Buchanan Baptist, Buchanan Presbyterian, Trinity United Methodist Church and Valley View Baptist Church. The Youth of Buchanan Baptist Church will hold a Beef Barbeque at Limestone Park on Saturday July 19 from 12- 5 p.m. cost is $6 per tray and includes a barbeque sandwich, a baked potato, slaw and beans. July 9, 2008Crossings Church has second church Service this Sunday at 10:30Crossings Christian Church, which will hold its second service this Sunday July 14 at 10:30 a.m. The contemporary service will be held at Greenfield Education Center off the Roanoke Road in the Auditorium. Pastor James Terry mentioned all are welcome to come see what this new church is all about. The new church is a planted church from the Virginia Vision council of the Church of Christ and Christian Church state program. We had a previous post about the church on May 14. July 7, 2008Vacation Bible Schools for this week and weekendFincastle Community Vacation Bible School will be all week at the Family Life Center of Fincastle United Methodist Church from tonight through Friday night. The theme this year is a Beach Party. Bible School begins at 6:30 p.m. and ends at 8:30 p.m. Ages preschool through 5th grade. Fun, Bible Stories, crafts and music are part of the program each night. St. Mark's United Methodist Church will have Sunday night Bible School through August beginning July 13. Brian Horton to the church staff as Associate Pastor of Children and Education. Pastor Brian is originally from Spartanburg, SC. A steady stream of patrons filed off the Route 11 and US 220 interchange next to the Truck Stop. At one point, a whole club full of Harley riders filled the parking lot. "We had our first customers at 1 p.m. and the last ones came by about 6:30," said Linda Cronise who manned the table with volunteers. Her husband Gary owns the bike shop and offered up the spot for the fund raiser. The couple live in Fincastle and attend Fincastle Baptist Church where the Free Clinic is located. Mill Creek Baptist Church youth held a car show from 9 a.m.to 4 p.m. Saturday. Fast cars, shiny chrome and restored memories of muscle cars held the day. The Buchanan firemen had the French Fry stand open, funnel cakes sizzled, and smoked pork BBQ sandwiches were a step away. More on Monday.... Carter are two residents of the Glebe who spent several weeks in January acting as members of Christian Peacekeeper Teams (CPT) in the West Bank. Through her association with the Church of the Brethren (Carter and her husband Clyde attend Daleville Church of the Brethren,) Karen S. Carter, a German native, decided to become a member of the CPT. This group of Christian peace keepers practice nonviolent methods to keep people safe whom they view as under duress from Israeli occupation in both countries. Plenty of clean water is now available to the citizens of the very impoverished Caribbean nation due to the efforts of the mission team. Moore said they made many balloon animals for the children, too. Mill Creek Baptist Church will hold a special event to show and tell the events of the mission trip Sunday night April 13 at 7 p.m. at the church. The public is invited to attend. Light refreshments will be served after the service. Mill Creek Baptist Church is located on US Route 11 five miles north of Troutville. Contact the church at 992-3474 for further information. March 31, 2008Christian Free Clinic names a new directorThe Christian Free Clinic in Botetourt has named Jenny Daniels its new executive director. The announcement that was made by the Free Clinic’s Medical Director, Dr. Bob Allen, at an appreciation dinner February 23 for volunteers, sponsors and other donors and contributors at the facility, which celebrated its first year of operation in January. Approximately 100 people attended the event, held at the Fincastle Baptist Church, which is also the location of the clinic. The clinic was started at the urging of local physician, Susanne Voekler. Dr. Voekler, in internal medicine specialist with Lewis-Gale, had volunteered with several other free clinics while as a medical student in Washington, D.C., and as an intern and resident in California, as well as in the Roanoke area. She serves as Clinical Director at the Botetourt Clinic. Continue reading "Christian Free Clinic names a new director" » March 27, 2008Clothing closet, a Fincastle United Methodist outreach, serves all Botetourt County citizensFincastle United Methodist Church has handled a clothing closet at the Family Life Center and thanks to the generosity of Andre and Joyce Hilliou of Fincastle, they now have a Main Street location across from the courthouse. For more than five years the clothing closet has been located in the Family Life Center and carted out of a closet every month during the SHARE program, a low cost grocery program held at the church. During the weekdays the church secretary had been allowing those in need to peruse the clothing supply. The Family Life Center will remain the sorting spot for donations. Rhonda Campbell, who heads the program for the church, has a committee of volunteers to help man the hours at the new site. Tuesdays and Saturdays coincide with Christian Free Clinic hours at Fincastle Baptist Church on Tuesdays and the Botetourt Food Pantry at St. Mark's Episcopal and SHARE on Saturdays.The outreach provides clothing for children and adults at no charge. Gently worn clothing, particularly women's plus sizes and larger size men's clothing, are currently a source of need and donations will be appreciated. March 12, 2008Fishing Ministry forms in Blue RidgeGlade Creek Baptist Church is beginning a fishing ministry relating to older children ages 10-15. Hooked for Life is the name of the new ministry, which will be starting up in Blue Ridge in April. Robert Deitz and Junior Martin are the program leaders for the group at the church located on 3148 Webster Rd. in Blue Ridge. The kickoff will be April 5 at 3 p.m. Children ages 10-15 are invited. Fishing, games, prizes, presentations and refreshments will be included in the afternoon event. The church is describing it as a fishing adventure club and will be sponsoring fishing trips. "Kids can earn fishing gear as the program progresses." said Deitz. Transportation is available. |
