Tech's Victor Tango team reaches DARPA finals

Team Victor Tango -- the team of Virginia Tech students and faculty in the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency autonomous vehicle competition -- is one of just 11 teams to reach the finals of the urban challenge in Victorville, Ca.

The group left Blacksburg for the competition last month and will find out Sunday if the past year of work they've put into their vehicle, "Odin," was enough to win them the $2 million grand prize.

Students pass April 16 resolution

Virginia Tech's Student Government Association has asked the university to declared April 16 a day of rememberance at the university to honor those who died in the campus shootings last spring.

The resolution was taken up less than a month after the shootings, with students' debating the wording of the resolution and whether classes should be held that day. Some students also debated whether or not to list "32" or "33" as the number of Hokies whose lives were lost that day -- the 33rd person being the shooter. The consensus seemed to favor using 32 or not using any number at all.

The final resolution steers clear of numbers, saying only the university lost "cherished Hokies" that day. It also asks that classes be cancelled on April 16, 2008 but not on April 16 every year.

The university is planning special events April 16 but there's no word yet on a specific plan.

Highty Tighties to play at Macy's Day Parade

The band was last in the famous New York City parade in 1999. Tune in to the live broadcast on NBC Thanksgiving morning to see them.
