Greek - Episode 2

Oh, the conniving.

Our favorite college kids are at it again, and it's only episode 2.

So, here's the latest breakdown ...

Casey, still angry that her boyfriend, Evan, slept with pledge Rebecca, plots to push her from Zeta Beta Zeta, with some classic Greek hazing.

But, when Rebecca's senator daddy sets the university straight even though his daughter was busted in the men's faculty locker room. Casey's plan backfires. Rebecca, smug as ever, sets in motion her own plan to make Casey's life horrible -- by stealing her room to add to the collection of Casey's goods she's had.

Meanwhile, geeky brother Rusty gets his own taste of frat pranks and leaves his first night at Kappa Tau with blue feet and holes in the butt of his pants. When he enters his 9 a.m. class the next day, his teacher gives him an assignment that tests his loyalty to both school and the Greeks.

After threatening Kappa Tau leader Cappie that he wants to quit, the frat brothers go into Zach Morris mode and try to save him from failing the assignment. When they're busted, Cappie claims to be rival Omega Chi.

In an every-snotty-girl-get-what-she-deserves twist toward the end, Casey gets a mysterious sex-video messaged to her exposing Rebecca for the experienced woman she is, and threatens to post it online for daddy, and the world, to see.

The blackmailing secures her room and positions her to be Rebecca's big sis.

In the end, Rusty's professor bails on grading his botched assignment, and proves even teachers play games.

All in all, I'd give this episode a B+. The scheming was hilarious, if not realistic, and I can't resist anything that includes a Gilmore Girls reference and beer pong in one.

The whole, "I want to be Ashton Kutcher" deal with Cappie may get a little old, though.

But, really, this show is about life lessons, it seems. Tonight's lecture seemed to be, "college is a balancing act." But, I'm more curious about the other message. I thought all Greeks loved each other? Where's the loyalty in this episode, ladies?

Tell me what you think about Monday's episode, and share your worst college betrayal.

Who knows, maybe I'll share my own, if you're lucky.

Next week: Rusty goes on a date. That should be interesting ...

I'm disappointed that this show makes nice about a national organization that is the foundation of the social caste system in America -- When are they going to expose the flagrant cocaine abuse and rape that runs rampant throughout the Greek system (everyone knows the Duke Lacrosse team paid off their accusers and the prosecution witnesses -- OJ all over again). What about exposing the system of favors the Greek system promotes and protects -- a system that white-washes the corruption and immorality of the upper classes, and reinforces the exploitation of America's working and middle classes? Where is the TRUTH Family Channel????

A student government association cut off a student newspaper's funding because the paper hired a lawyer because the SGA often meets in secret. The SGA has relented. Sort of. Temporarily. Read about it here.

  • Online forum to talk about campus security -

The day after holding a statewide conference on campus security, Gov. Tim Kaine's office announced the creation of a web site where "members of the Virginia college community," can discuss campus security.

Go here for more information and to register to have access to the site.

The governor's panel on the Virginia Tech shootings is expected to release a fairly thick report on the work it's done this summer in the next week or two and Tech's own internal review is also scheduled for completion soon.

Security is one of many topics expected to be covered in those reports. This forum seems to be an attempt to keep the conversation fluid and share information more between universities.
