RU Town Hall Meetings

The core curriculm process continues at RU. The town hall meetings that will let faculty and staff comment on what's been done so far have been scheduled. Faculty senate president Jim Lollar sent an email this morning. You can read it below.

To read earlier coverage of the issue, go here and here.

The email:

Dear Faculty, Students, and Staff,

The final session hosted by the Faculty Senate and the General Education Curriculum Advisory Committee to solicit input and develop learning objectives for the areas proposed in the core curriculum framework will take place Thursday afternoon, March 6, between 11-noon in Hurlburt 229. The area to be considered at this session is the Natural Sciences.

As previously announced, the next step in the process will involve all-campus “Town Hall” meetings at which faculty, students, and staff will have the opportunity to review the tentative learning objectives that have emerged thus far and provide additional input. The “Town Hall” meetings have now been scheduled:
• Wednesday, March 19 in the Bonnie Auditorium, 11:00-12:30
• Wednesday, March 19 in the Bonnie Auditorium, 1:30-3:00

Please participate in the conversation as we continue to design the new core curriculum. We value your input!

Thank you,
James G. Lollar, President
Faculty Senate

Just what is the hurry Dr. Lollar, a.k.a. RU administration? The process should take at least four years to study, design, and implement.

Now, if there was a crisis, perhaps we could understand the haste. Is there a crisis? Other than the incredible series of missteps by the president, board of rectors, provost, and the "yes persons" on the RU senate, the university continues to turn out highly sought after, excellent graduates.

Now, this gang of incompetent administrators is having an impact. The faculty is disillusioned, and the word seems to be getting out to prospective students. Enrollment is down significantly at RU. This, when every other school in the region has increasing applications and enrollments up.

Isn't there another job in Richmond that P-Kyle could aspire to. Radford has had about all of her act it can stand.

  • The price of free speech? -

A student government association cut off a student newspaper's funding because the paper hired a lawyer because the SGA often meets in secret. The SGA has relented. Sort of. Temporarily. Read about it here.

  • Online forum to talk about campus security -

The day after holding a statewide conference on campus security, Gov. Tim Kaine's office announced the creation of a web site where "members of the Virginia college community," can discuss campus security.

Go here for more information and to register to have access to the site.

The governor's panel on the Virginia Tech shootings is expected to release a fairly thick report on the work it's done this summer in the next week or two and Tech's own internal review is also scheduled for completion soon.

Security is one of many topics expected to be covered in those reports. This forum seems to be an attempt to keep the conversation fluid and share information more between universities.
