Space shuttle to sport Hokie flag

Hokie love is out of this world.

The Space Shuttle Atlantis, STS 117 will carry a Virginia Tech flag on the flight scheduled to launch on Friday.

It's part of a long line of Hokie love among NASA employees.

The VT flag flying this time will be custom-made.

The shuttle is headed to the International Space Station at 7 p.m. out of Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

A week after the shootings, a pegasus rocket sported a VT memorial ribbon logo.

In 2005, Tech alum Charlie Camarda travelled with a smaller Hokie flag along the space shuttle Discovery, STS 114. That was the first return flight after the Columbia exploded.

So, where does this stop? Does this mean that all sports teams will put a VT memorial on the uniforms, too?

Seven of the eight sentences document VT Flags associated with NASA. Why ask in the last sentence about sports teams putting VT Logos on their uniforms? What does sentence eight have to do with sentences one through seven?

It has to do with people plastering the VT logo all over the place because -- do they really have the right to do so or are they just capitalizing off of tragedy.

  • Online forum to talk about campus security -

    The day after holding a statewide conference on campus security, Gov. Tim Kaine's office announced the creation of a web site where "members of the Virginia college community," can discuss campus security.

    Go here for more information and to register to have access to the site.

    The governor's panel on the Virginia Tech shootings is expected to release a fairly thick report on the work it's done this summer in the next week or two and Tech's own internal review is also scheduled for completion soon.

    Security is one of many topics expected to be covered in those reports. This forum seems to be an attempt to keep the conversation fluid and share information more between universities.
