Dave, the reason for the empty seats is two-fold. First, Hokie attendance never picks up until the ACC schedule begins. It's like the fans can't focus on two sports, as though they aren't 'done' with football until January. Secondly, Hokie basketball fans are just a tough sell. They'll show up for 3 games a season - UVa, UNC, & Duke. The other games are hit or miss. It's been that way since we've joined the ACC.

Hopefully, Johnson's style of play will result in exciting games and the fan base will slowly be drawn into attending Cassell like they do Lane. At one point, it came close to happening under Greenberg, but then faded. If Johnson fields competitive teams that are high scoring, it makes it much more likely to occur during his tenure.

Cassell can be far more intimidating than Lane when both places are rocking, and that's saying a lot. It's true, though. It would be fun to see that happen again. We've got quite a way to go with the program before that occurs, but it would be great to see.

Wow, Bill, that made no sense whatsoever.

Rats. Ship. Puke... Pirates of the Caribbean?

Guessing that's a ride at Disney World in Orlando once the football team gets an invite to the bowl...

I haven't commented on this blog until yesterday. Here is what I see as a fan:

1. Players with confidence.
2. Players who look like they are having FUN instead of looking at the bench expecting to get chewed out.
3. Players allowed to use their own creativity. Reverse layups, backline runs, alley oop passes, lots of fast breaks with outlet passes and BEST OF ALL a good secondary and even tertiary fast break.
4. Raines is abetter player than anyone could have thought. Goodness he plays tough.
5. Green is terrific.
6. Green is not a one person team. Eddie and whole bunch of others are pretty datn good, too.
7. Did I mention they look like they are having FUN?

8. Poise, poise, poise and self-control.
9. No hysteronics from the bench. It looks like they are getting help, not lectures.
10. And BTW, it really looks like they are having FUN!

What a pleasyre to watch. Its been so painful the last few years. I jhave no idea how good this team will finally prove to be but they now have a good win and a signature win. No wilting under pressure.

It is one terrific resume so far.

Congratulations to the team and JJ. GO HOKIES!!!!

FUN!!!!

Great to see the Hokies starting so well, but his does not excuse the inept firing of Seth Greenberg and the inexplicable hiring of his one time assistance at the insistance of current players.

Johnson is doing well with Seth's players, hope he can do as well with recruiting and coaching some of his own. Not off to a grea start on the former, but promising on the later. Little doubt potential recruits will love the idea of the loosy-goosey run-and-gun style that Johnson is employing. It's a shooters offense.

I think after our Iowa win our RPI was like 125 with a schedule ranked around 300, so let's not get to far ahead of ourselves about being ranked. Will this style play in the ACC? Can we avoid the injury bug with a bench the shortest it's been since Seth had a 7 scholarship players for a couple of games? Will the hands stay hot? We will be able to continue to play at this speed with a short bench far into the season?

Will be fun to watch, but for those that have commited so much time in the past only to come up short we'll keep our distance for a little longer.

A great win for the Hokies yesterday! It was fun to watch. The players have a lot of confidence, and are doing much better at playing the whole game. They're improving in that regard a little bit each game. In the past there would be spells of 4-5 minutes where everyone just went to sleep, and the opponents would go on a 15-0 run. Now, we're the ones making that run. We're still not being consistent the entire game, but they are improving.

FT shooting has miraculously turned around and is very good. 3pt shooting is much more frequent and the shots are dropping now. Pace of play is very entertaining. Just so we don't continue to bog down when the opposition goes into a zone on us.

The W-L record is great, but not the important thing. They've still got a long season ahead of them. Maintaining their consistency will be KEY. I'm not nearly as worried about wins as I am about style & effort of play. It's (the season & the program) not a sprint, it's a marathon.

While we're 7-0, though, I'm definitely going to enjoy it...
