Ugoka has sprained knee

Wondering why Virginia Tech women’s basketball player Uju Ugoka didn’t play in Sunday’s win over Hampton? Coach Dennis Wolff said Monday that Ugoka missed the game with a slightly sprained MCL but is expected to play Thursday at UVa.

Wolff said Ugoka hurt her knee in the win over Wake Forest two weekends ago and aggravated the injury in Friday’s win over N.C. A&T. She saw the doctor Sunday.

“She tweaked her MCL, so she’s day to day. We just thought we’d hold her out. I think she’ll be able to play on Thursday,” Wolff said. “She’s got to stay off it for a couple days and rehab a little bit. We thought playing her yesterday was going to aggravate it.”

Tech’s other standout, Monet Tellier, missed the first part of Sunday’s game for disciplinary reasons. She was late to a team practice Saturday, said Wolff.

I forgot. VaTech has a women’s basketball team. Apologies to the girls working themselves hard to succeed. They just came along at the wrong time – when Jim Weaver was in charge. Best of luck, gals, sorry your team has been so marginalized.
