Dear Mark,

My apologies regarding your recent Basketball Poll.I hurriedly concluded your Poll omitted VT in the top 25. I’m delighted to see Tech at number 19 in your Poll where they rightfully belong. Thanks for your support. Coach James Johnson and staff have our Hokies in my view playing as well as any team in the ACC with the possible exception of Duke?

UNC lost to Butler and Indiana, both being chocked full of veteran players, while UNC is breaking in some new pieces who played more in relief or off the bench, so I think UNC gets a bit of a pass. Of course, there’s always the Carolina bias angle that gets played every time UNC is still in the ranking, and folks like yourself howl about it.

This early in the season, the poll isn’t as meaningful until January-February when conference races have a tendency to shake things out. There are a lot of good basketball teams who would kill to have their name in the top 25, but that’s just an exercise in foolishiness.

Personally, I tweeted on Monday that if I was a poll voter, I would hold off ranking Tech until after playing West Virginia. If the Hokies beat West Virginia, then I would be more than happy to rank them, but if the Hokies lose, then it would give me pause. I think that’s what a lot of folks are doing. They want to make sure it was not a mirage they are seeing in this year Hurrying Hokies.

What the heck are you talking about? You must not have read either of my last two posts, sir. In my next-to-last blog post, titled My Top 25 Ballot, I ranked Va. Tech at No. 19! My most recent blog post, yesterday afternoon, was titled “VT doesn’t make Top 25 but does make my ballot.” Well, that says it right there, that VT wasn’t in the Top 25 but was indeed in my ballot. In that blog post, my first line was “Well, I voted for the Hokies in my AP Top 25 ballot last night, but they did not make the poll today.” That says it all right there. I proceeded in that post to discuss some details of the new AP poll — not my ballot, the poll — then ran the poll in that post then re-ran my ballot in that same post where I have the Hokies No. 19.

Maybe you should actually watch some of these teams instead of looking at the box score. I’m sure UNC would look better if they played Iowa at home instead of Indiana on the road.

It is inconceivable that as well as VT has played in beating Iowa and 15th ranked OSU that VT is not rabked even higher than 25th. After watching UNC play as bad as an elementary school team,NC State playing even worse, MARK HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY LEAVE VT OUT OF THE TOP 25. yOUR ASSESSMENT REMINDS ME OF THE ABSOUTLEY STUPID ASSESSMENT JAY WILLIAMS WHOS THINKS HE WAS A SUPER STAR AT DUKE, WITH A 9,5 CAREER AVERAGE, THROUGH OUT THE cAROLINA ..UAB GAME SATURDAY LISTED HIS TOP ACC SCHOOLS DID NOT EVEN MENTION VT AS ONE OF THE BETTER TEAMS IN THE ACC AT THIS STAGE OF THE SEASON, GETTING INTO DUKE CLEARLY DOES NOT MEAN INTELLIGENCE..BECAUSE HE EXHIBITED NONE!!!!! HE IS CLEARLY NOT AN ASTUTE JUDGE OF PLAYERS OR TEAM TALENT. MARK IF YOU REGIONAL WRITERS DON’T GET OFF YOUR DUFF AND PUSH FOR TEAMS LIKE VT TO BE RECOGNIZED WHEN IT IS DESERVED VT WILL NEVER RECEIVE THEIR DUE RECOGNITION!!!!!
