Women’s basketball
Saturday
Wake Forest at Virginia Tech
2 p.m. at Cassell Coliseum
Records: Wake Forest 5-5, 0-0 ACC; Virginia Tech 4-5, 0-0 ACC.
Notes: This game will mark the Hokies debut of two players. According to Tech, the host family of one of Ugoka’s former teammates bought her a round-trip plane ticket so Ugoka could visit her home country of Nigeria — but Ugoka never fully repaid the sum. … Ugoka has practiced with Tech all season, unlike freshman Hannah Young, who will also make her Tech debut today. Young did not enroll at Tech for the fall semester because the NCAA did not declare her academically eligible in August. The Australian took two courses at New River Community College this fall and took the SAT again. The NCAA declared her eligible this week.… The Demon Deacons’ first-year coach is William Byrd and Wake Forest graduate Jennifer Mitchell Hoover, formerly the coach at High Point. … Wake has beaten Tech six straight times, including twice last season. … Lakevia Boykin is averaging 14.5 points for Wake, which has been idle since Dec. 8. … Wake lost to UConn 95-34 last month. … The Wake bench includes freshman Kandice “Daisy” Ball (Pulaski County/Oak Hill Academy), who has scored a total of three points in three games this season. … Tech is on a three-game skid.
