Thursday

Maryland at Virginia Tech

9 p.m. at Cassell Coliseum

Records: Maryland 16-6, 4-5 ACC; Virginia Tech 11-10, 2-6.

TV: CW5

Last meeting: Maryland won 94-71 at home on Jan. 5.

Va. Tech probable starters: F Jarell Eddie (14.4 ppg), F C.J. Barksdale (4.8 ppg), C Cadarian Raines (6.8 ppg), G Robert Brown (9.5 pp), G Erick Green (25 ppg).

Maryland probable starters: F Jake Layman (5 ppg), F James Padgett (5.9 ppg), C Alex Len (12.7 ppg, 8.2 rpg), G Dez Wells (12.2 ppg), G Nick Faust (8.5 ppg)

Notes: When these teams met last month, Tech wasn’t playing as much 2-3 zone defense as it is now. “If they’re going to play 2-3, we’re going to have to make some shots,” Maryland coach Mark Turgeon said. “But defensively, we have to do a much better job, I think, than we did here.” … The Terrapins were 10 of 23 from 3-point range in the last meeting. Layman had four 3-pointers and 20 points in that game. Fellow freshman Seth Allen had three 3-pointers 21 points. Maryland led from the opening basket in that meeting, when it shot 51.7 percent from the field. … Barksdale did not play in that meeting because coach James Johnson had not been pleased with his effort. Johnson started Raines and backup center Joey van Zegeren in that meeting. … Brown’s shooting woes continue. He had more turnovers (five) than baskets (three) in last weekend’s overtime loss at North Carolina. He is shooting just 24 percent from the field in his past 12 games. … The Hokies have lost eight of their past 10 games, including the last four.
