My Radio rough tracks

I'm working on a story about open mic nights, so last night I stopped at 202 Market. Jeff Hofmann, aka the hardest working bass player in Roanoke, was there, playing up his usual fine grooveness. Afterward, he played me some tracks from the sessions he's recently done with My Radio, the pop-rock band he's in with singer/keyboardist JP Powell, guitarist Brett Lemon and drummer Hunter Johnson.

The tracks include a new version of the band's "Turn Up The Radio," which was already a hit in my book. It rocks a bit harder this time out, with some good backing vocals added. Other tunes I heard tell me that this is going to be a good CD, with plenty of 80s and 90s influences in there -- mostly the good kind! So maybe my wish from a previous blog entry will come true -- that a Roanoke-based band will hit it big.

Mixing is still in process, so there's no release date yet. But wait for it. If you're a sucker for quality pop-rock, this could definitely be your thing.

You can hear My Radio tonight (Thursday) at Martin's Downtown Bar & Grill, in Roanoke. The group is opening for Virginia Coalition. Go to roanoke.com's Top Tickets page for more details on that, and yet another parcel of fine shows in the valleys.

Matt

I've heard those cuts too, except my venue was Brett's car, and I could not agree more.

Anyone that has the chance to see these guys live in the coming months should definitely jump on it. They are incredible.

I heard the turnout for My Radio's show with Virginia Coalition didn't get a huge turnout. That's kind of a surprise to me. (I was visiting family out of town and couldn't make it myself).

But I have seen My Radio a couple of times and agree totally with Matt. These boys are really on it live.
