Question of the week: Your favorite guitarist

Are we lazy? Or do we just know a good thing when we see one? Either way, we're sticking to a formula with this week's question. Tell us who is your favorite guitar player in the Roanoke and New River valleys, and why. Send us a link to music, if there's one available.
Have a good week!

Jimmy

Hoppie Vaughan, from Roanoke, is my guitar hero. Although he has really just picked up the instrument in the last few years, and was a bass player for quite some time before, he has an astounding sense of soul behind the notes he plays. A less is more player approachable by any ear.

Ugh, this is like asking me who my favorite kid is.

Ask any up and coming guitar player in this area who their guitar teacher is and it's probably Kenny Seay. Kenny is an amazing player, it's hard to find anyone better.

Of course I would be remiss if I failed to mention the guitar players in my favorite band, TK-421. Troy Winemiller and Chuck Johnson are both exceptional players who have traveled all over this country playing in extemely successful bands.

Chuck is also currently touring the globe, yes the whole globe, playing with Grammy award winning Jazz artist, Najee.

My 2 favorite teams is Chuck and Troy from TK-421 and Joe and Robert from Ademption. I grew up with Joe and Robert, hell i was there when Joe first picked up a guitar. I started playin 3 months after Joe, then met Robert.

Yet we all tripped nuts when we first seen TK. So knowing what they all can do, I have to vote for all 4...

Steve L. (A BASS is a Guitar too!) lays down some of the best bass lines ever played.

Troy W. and his 3/8" Craftsman (inside joke)

and we can't leave out Chuck J. (Jazzy Globetrotter)

As individuals they are all very good, as TK421 they blend together as an amazing gumbo of sound. Rock on Guys.

Guess it depends on the kind of music you like, but my favorite is Scott Fore of Radford. He can play blues, bluegrass, and jazz. I'm sure he can play more if ya ask him to. You can't argue with his credentials, either. National Flat Picking Champ and Wayne Henderson's champion of champions. Not bad, huh??

Franklin

Gotta go with Curley Ennis. Most of his gigs are private now, but with any luck we'll see him around soon. Not many people from these parts get invited to play the New Orleans Jazz Fest, as Mr. Ennis did.

Denver Dewitt - from Staunton Keith Guthrie Hoppy Vaughan Tim Wingo Fred Lewis Brian Wheeling

These are the guys that are doing it around here ... Every one of these guys has moments of greatness, and has paid his dues. Each one is tasteful, knows what to play and when to play it. Kenny Seay ? You have got to be kidding ! He'll never be a pimple on the ass of any of these guys, LOLOL !
