L Shape Lot, featuring a former Roanoker, wins FloydFest X’s Under the Radar contest
FloydFest has announced the winner of this year’s Under the Radar contest. Folks at this year’s festival voted for L Shape Lot, a Wilmington, N.C., band led by onetime Roanoker Eric Miller. Having heard the band on Sunday as I was uploading video from the beer garden, I have to say it was a good pick. These guys rock the country music, without sounding like Nashville assembly line sellouts.
The band played Martin’s Downtown in late May, and we advanced it in part by doing a podcast with Miller, including streaming music. Check out the podcast.
Kings of Belmont was the runner-up.
UPDATE: I have just realized this is the third consecutive North Carolina band to win the Under the Radar series. Big Daddy Love, from Sparta, won last year, and The Mantras, from Greensboro, won the year before. The first winner — back when it was called Emerging Artists contest — was Charlottesville’s William Walter & Co.
